“Tiny” is how Mrs. Lauria calls, with great affection, some of the cars on display at the Rome Show Room owned by her husband. The company is called AutoMotoSport and these “tiny” cars are classics: the Abarth and Giannini versions of the Fiat 500. Cars which Mr. Lauria was racing with back in the 1970s all over Italy.
In 1975 he started competing with a 500 Giannini Montecarlo.
In 1978 he cam in second place in the Italian Coppa CSAI Championship, driving a 700 Giannini
He tries again with the same car in 1979 and wins the championship
In the following years he raced in other categories driving cars such as the Renault 5 Alpine, Fiat 130 Abarth and Peugeot 205 Rally. He competed in various track and uphill championships both as the driver and as the leading mechanic of well established teams. Results were very good and top placements were achieved.
In 1984 he came first in his class with a Renault 5 Group 2 in the only time he participated at the Rome Rally.
In 1985 he was overall winner for cars up to 3000cc with a Fiat 126 cl. 700 Group 5 at the Italian Mountain Championship (second zone)
In 1989 he was overall winner at the Italian Saico Challenge participating with two cars: a Peugeot 205 Rally Group N and an Abarth 695 SS.
From 1990 to the present day Mr. Lauria continues to race with his Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione 2 Group N as well as in the Asso Mini Car championship with his Fiat 500 cl. 700 Group 2.
Tesatament to his success on the racetrack over the years are the numerous trophies on display in his office. His passion for the “500” that has made Mr. Lauria a point of reference worldwide for many enthusiasts. Whether you are in San Francisco, Sydney or London do not be surprised if you see a 500 drive by with a AutoMotoSport logo attached on the side.
